Yalu Jailbreak

Italian iOS hacker and developer, Luca Todesco, has provided iOS users with an early Christmas gift,  a new jailbreak called Yalu Jailbreak. Todesco is known for showing off jailbreaks on his personal devices but not for releasing them to the public so this is something of a surprise for us as we were expecting the jailbreak to come from either Taig or Pangu jailbreak teams. It is worth taking note of what Todesco has to say about the jailbreak before you run off and download it, especially as he says we may not see another one for some time.

Before you Jailbreak :

  • Todesco says that Yalu is likely to be unstable because it is a beta jailbreak. As such, it should really be left alone until it has been stabilized but it is down to you whether you go ahead and download it or not
  • You need to download another tool called Cydia Impactor to side-load the jailbreak onto your iOS device and you must have a valid Apple ID for this
  • Yalu is semi-untethered and that means you will need to reactivate it each time you reboot your iPhone or iPad

How to Downloads and Install Yalu Jailbreak :

  1. Download Yalu Jailbreak .ipa file [ ext link ]
  2. Download Cydia Impactor [ ext link ]
  3. Connect your device to your computer and then back the data up on it using iTunes and iCloud
  4. Now you can open Cydia Impactor on your computer and wait for it to recognize your device
  5. Find where you saved the .ipa file and drag it into the Cydia Impactor window
  6. You will be asked to provide your Apple ID so type it in
  7. Now you must wait while Cydia Impactor does its job in preparing the certificate and side loading Yalu onto your device
  8. When it has finished, you can disconnect your device and then open Settings > General > Device Profile
  9. Find the app you just side loaded and tap on Trust
  10. Come out of Settings and tap the mach_portal icon on your home screen
  11. Now you will need to wait about 10 to 15 seconds while the jailbreak process completes and, when your device resprings, you should see Cydia on your home screen
  12. You can now use the jailbreak as you would any other

One of the first things you should download from Cydia is an app called Cydia Eraser [ext link]. Should you need to remove the jailbreak it will let you do it without upgrading you to a later iOS version, enabling you reinstall the jailbreak if you want to.
