iOS 7 Battery Life – Problems

It may be a little too soon to start having this discussion but it’s a question that many have asked – how much impact will iOS 7 have on the battery life of your iOS device ? Some who have already downloaded the iOS 7 Beta version have already noticed a difference.

Every iOS upgrade has a lot of features in it and iOS 7 is packed full of them. It doesn’t matter what the experts say, if you want the fast experience that you have become used to, with more than just one app running, then it’s a given that such a powerful operating system is going to have an impact on your battery life. Here are some of the things that are going to have an effect .

iOS 7 Features Affecting Battery Performance :

  • Background Tilt – Always on as it constantly monitors the gyro
  • Clock – real time, multifunctional
  • Better camera and more features in the Photo app
  • Better graphics in Safari tabs
  • Multitasking

Of course, these are just the immediate ones, the ones you see. Behind the scene there are loads of different processes going on and, while some could say that each one of the features only uses a little bit of life, add them all together and you’ve got a system that will munch its way through your battery pretty quickly.

One thing to bear in mind though, is that Beta versions, especially of brand new iOS Firmware, always have issues and tend to be very heavy on battery power.  The real score will not be known until the firmware is finally released to the public. However, as with all battery problems, there are always ways to increase your battery life by switching off apps, notifications and toggles that you don’t need. Or you can purchase a battery pack case, designed to increase battery life.

  1. Thought I’d share a few things which I’ve seen impact battery on ios7.
1 -- iMessage is buggy and needs to be turned off/on to reset issue (drains battery very very quickly)
2- some apps seem to conflict also causing extremely fast battery drain.
Fix is to turn off all apps and reset phone (holding home and power)
Hope this helps some on the dev ios7

  2. iPhone 5 battery life was not the greatest running iOS 6, we can only expect the battery life to decrease :(
I’m sure the next iPhone will address that problem.

  3. It’s a BETA, which means that it has extra things running in the background for testing and bug-tracking. These use the most battery live..
