It was expected that Samsung would reveal their new Mini Galaxy S4 at an event in London on June 20th. However, today, the device has been officially announced on their corporate blog. The last 2 devices were unveiled at special events but it appears that Samsung have gone back to their old ways for this new one.
Externally, it looks pretty much the same as its big brother. Internally, there’s a 1.7GHz processor and 1.5GB RAM, although that’s pretty much all that’s known at the moment. The Mini name doesn’t come from its size; it has a 4.3” Super AMOLED display that’s qHD with a 16:9 ratio. The name looks as though it has come from the downgrade in the specs, although what there is, is still more than enough for a decent phone.
Galaxy S4 Mini Features :
There hasn’t been any announcement about a new Android OS so the Mini will ship with 4.2.2 Jellybean, which is the current version. It weighs in at just 107gm and has an 8 megapixel rear camera with a 1.9 megapixel offering at the front. It does have some nifty features for the camera, such as Sound and Shot, Low Light Shooting for night photography, HDR, Panorama, Sports, and many more.
The Mini S4 will ship in 4G LTE, 3G Single SIM and 3G Dual SIM. The 4G option will also have NFC. All versions will be available in White Frost or Black Mist. The battery is a 1.9mAh offering while connectivity will be made possible by Wi-Fi 5.0GHz. GPS, GLONASS, IR LED and Bluetooth 4.0 are also featured along with an accelerometer, proximity, magnetic and light sensors and a gyro.
The CEO of IT and Mobile Communication for Samsung Electronics, JK Shin, says that the Mini is being released due to high demand for the S4 full size, but with a price tag to attract those who can’t afford the more expensive device.
The S4 Mini will have 8GB of internal storage and a Micro SD slot capable of increasing the storage to 64GB. Many of the features introduced with the larger S4 are also available on the Mini, such as S Translator, S Travel, Samsung Link, Screen Mirroring, Smart Switch, and many more.
At the moment there is no information on release date and price but, as soon as further announcements are made, we’ll pass the news on.
