How to Fresh Install EL Capitan on Mac – New Install

Apple unveiled the much-awaited OS X El Capitan yesterday , 2 weeks after releasing iOS 9 . Apple stated that this new Mac OS comes with great improvements [read features]. Reportedly, the performance has improved significantly and the Spotlight search has become better and more intelligent. The multi-window management has got improvements too and the Notes app has been revamped. The new OS also sports the metal graphics technology, and Safari has now got Tab Mute and Pinned Sites. The OS X El Capitan is supposedly a major improvement over OS X Yosemite in terms of refinement and under-the-hood performance.

Clean Install OS X El Capitan on Mac :

  1. Download the OS X El Capitan from from iTunes and then extract the .dmg file. You can download the OS by launching iTunes and then go to Features Section. There you will see the option to GET EL Capitan . Click on that and iTunes will ask for login details for verification purpose . After that is done , click on Download button to proceed with the download .osx elcapitan download
  2. From the .dmg file opened, copy the .app file in the “Program”. el capitan install app
  3. Go to Programs > Utilities > Terminal (or search for it) and click “Terminal” to open it.
  4. .sudo / Applications / {application name} .app / Contents / Resources / createinstallmedia –volume / Volumes / {name of the stick} –applicationpath / Applications / {application name} .app –nointeraction
  5. Here instead of {application name} and {name of the usb stick} substitute the appropriate values.
  6. Remember to format the flash drive for HFS + (Mac OS Extended (Journaled) in Disk Utility) markup GUID.

Note: An easy way to get the full path of the .app file and section of a usb stick is to drag and drop the window right in the Terminal, as there are gaps in the name of the .app that are required to be screened.

Next, take a backup. After successfully backing up your data, reboot your Mac while pressing down the Alt key and selecting the usb stick. If needed, put system after Disk Utility to erase the partitions.
