How to Set Auto Screen Lock Time on iPhone

Every iPhone and iPad has the Auto-Lock feature on it, and this is a useful feature that lets you control the length of time your screen remains active when your device is not in use.

It makes sense that the less time it is active, the quicker that screen turns off, and this provides users with two benefits.

  • Better Security – the quicker the screen turns inactive, the quicker your passcode lock or Touch ID feature becomes active, and that makes it easier to stop unauthorized access.
  • Better Battery Life – if your screen goes off quicker, it isn’t lit up for as long, and that means it uses less battery life because background apps, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and so on will all shut down quicker.

How to Alter Auto-Lock Settings:

Changing the settings on your iPhone or iPad for the auto-lock feature is very simple and will take no time at all:

  1. Open your iOS Settings app and go to the General section
  2. Go down the screen until you see Auto-Lock and tap it  lockscreen-timer-set-iphone
  3. Decide how long you want the screen active – you have a choice of between 1 and 5 minutes.lockscreen-timer-set-iphone-
  4. In the top-left corner of your screen, tap on General, and you will go back one screen.

That’s all you have to do. Now, when you stop using your iPhone or iPad, the screen will remain active for as long as you choose.  There is another option you could choose, and that is Never. However, unless you use your iPhone or iPad 24/7 or it is permanently connected to the charger, this really isn’t a safe option because it leaves your device active permanently – not good for security or battery life!
